Inasmuch as we want certain things out of life, there are also numerous things we DO NOT want. And it is easy to denounce the situations and conditions we don't want. It's a natural response after all.
I mean, it wouldn't be a surprise to hear someone uttering statements such as:
I don't want this illness.
I don't want to be broke.
I don't want such romantic partners.
They think and say all the things they don't want with so much conviction that even the people around them know exactly what they don't want, but somehow they always end up with what they don't want.
Why?
Because of the Black Coffee Theory.
The Black Coffee Theory is a mindset concept suggesting that focusing on what you don't want causes you to attract it.
It stems from a situation where one man went to a coffee shop, and when the barista asked him what he wanted, he replied, "Anything but not black coffee".
Even after the barista repeatedly asked, "What exactly do you want?" He kept on saying, "Give me anything but not black coffee".
The barista went about taking orders at this busy coffee shop. When he returned to the man, he came back with black coffee. Even when he repeatedly denounced black coffee, the barista brought it.
Because he spoke of black coffee so much, what registered in the barista's mind was black coffee. The man did not say what he wanted; instead, he focused on what he did not want. So did the barista.
At times, we find ourselves in situations we despise. And state that we do not want to be there. But the mistake we commit is to overly focus on those situations. And then we attract them.
Whether negative or not, what we focus on manifests. This is why many people find themselves in the same situations for years.
They live with curable illnesses, but somehow they don't get healed.
They remain broke, no matter how much they hate it.
They attract the same type of horrible romantic partners.
Even when they denounce those things, they seem to always follow them.
Just like the barista, the universe will serve you that which you continually denounce because you place so much energy and attention on it.
What the Black Coffee Theory teaches us is that we need to focus on what we want instead. For that is what the universe will serve us with.
To fix this, we ought to know exactly what we want. Being able to be descriptive to the T for what we DO want. Then focus on it.
When the barista (whatever you believe in) comes to serve you, and you know exactly what you want, it thus heightens your chances of receiving exactly what you want.
Ultimately, whether you choose to focus on the things you don't want or do want. The barista will serve you. Therefore, it is better to receive exactly what you order by simply knowing and strictly focusing on it.
