Attending Too Many Meetings? That's a Sign of a Malfunctioning System

ree

In a professional world, meetings are an integral part of managing the organization or business. However, when these meetings become too many, and often, the more there are, the more unnecessary they become. It is an indication of elements that aren't effectively working as they should.

As I've gathered, many meetings are about the previous meeting. There tend to be no clear solutions for each meeting and no strictly defined agendas or purposes.

A meeting is created to discuss what was not done or achieved by the previous meeting. Or the meetings are always created to discuss the same thing repeatedly.

In a world where everyone does what they should be doing as per the expectation and achieve the desired outcomes, there would be limited meetings. But in an environment where such is not happening, that is where too many meetings happen. Which signals a malfunctioning system.

Of course, you need to have meetings. But when they get too much and you find yourself or others overbooked, or even attending meetings the whole day, that is a sign of an operational system that is not fully effective.

Moreover, too many meetings are significantly contributing nothing of value to the already existing malfunctioning system. They disrupt workflow, decrease productivity, and eat up time that could be used for doing valuable tasks.

Basically, people who are in favour of meetings should never be in charge of anything. Primarily for the reasons I have stated above. They immensely put pressure on a system that is already not at its full optimum.

When the operational system is effective, there would be little to no meetings in a thriving organization.

It makes it worse when you find meetings that are 1, 2, or 3 hours long. If that does not signal a bad system, I don't know what would.

To discover what is malfunctioning is an immense task that ought to be done in an organization that seeks to have productive members.

So, if you are creating too many meetings or are requested to attend meetings even when unnecessary. That means there is some form of an issue with the overall system employed in the operations of the organization.

Be it a religious organization, a government department, an NPO, a small business, or whatever type of an organization. The more you attend meetings, the more they indicate a system that is malfunctioning.
