You ask a friend, when can we meet up? They reply, "I don't know, I don't have time."
You ask a colleague, can you do this for me? They reply, "I don't have time."
You advise someone to upskill and continue their studies, they reply, "I don't have time."
The commonality with these people is that they are all untruthful.
They do have the time. They are just not willing to do what you ask of them.
You might've heard the saying "We all don't have the same twenty-four hours", when someone sees someone else doing something remarkable. This statement is often said by those who enjoy their leisure time in comparison to doing other activities.
As I have recently published my new book, The Art of Gaining Wisdom, many people are astonished by the fact that this is my fourth book.
And the question I always get is, "Where do you get the time?"
And that question primarily comes from fellow colleagues and friends.
Because we may be full-time employed, they assume we would have no time to write and publish books. Hence, the where do you find the time question always arises.
The fact of the matter is, whether full-time employed or not, we all have the time to either do what we need to do or enjoy doing.
For example, after school or work, many choose to indulge in entertainment or amusing themselves via watching television, doom-scrolling social media, or online streaming shows. From thereon, their day is done; they head for bed.
On weekends, they spend time with friends and family, socialising. When the weekend is done, they head back home and off to bed. They start another week, and so it goes.
This is a life routine of many people. Those who claim they don't have time.
Don't get me wrong, there's nothing wrong with this kind of life, for as long as you choose it. I am against it when people who live like that then claim they do not have the time to do the things they need to do.
Surprisingly, even those who may be sitting at home, who may not have had an opportunity to find employment, also tend to claim they don't have time.
They can spend their days, months, and years doing nothing. This is not because there is nothing to do; they merely choose leisure over exerting themselves with activities that may require mental or physical stress.
People choose to do with their time what they deem important or enjoyable. The fact is, we all have the time to do anything we want or have to do.
So, the answer to the question of "where do I get the time?" is simply, I choose to write with the time you choose to do something else.
It is all a matter of choice and priority.
There is no such thing as someone who does not have the time to do something. You make the time. No matter how busy you may claim your life is, perhaps you're married with children, and you have a job. You do make the time for the things you deem important.
Basically, those who claim they don't have time to do something simply do not want to do that thing. If they wanted to, they would find the time because there always is.
